CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - For years, the only buzz around Time Warner Cable arena was the one from the clippers at the barber shop on the bottom floor.   Now, there's another buzz going around.

"The buzz is we're going to bring the old Hornets back," said barber Timothy Doe.

At first, the idea seemed to be farfetched.  After all, the Hornets name still belonged to New Orleans.  But last year, the team gave it up. Next season, they'll become the Pelicans.

That means the Hornet's name, the colors, the mascot – are all up for grabs. And some are already saying – so long Bobcat's.

"All of these pieces of the puzzle are starting to fall into place," said Scotty Kent, organizer of Bring Back the Buzz.

Scotty Kent is part of the "Bring Back the Buzz" campaign, a grassroots effort that seems to have attracted the Bobcat's attention.  On Wednesday, owner Michael Jordan released a line of purple and teal sportswear.

"Either this is one horrible joke or we're on the brink of becoming the Charlotte hornets," said Kent.

Fans are nostalgic.

"We love how the hornets made everyone feel in the city, we had a relationship with them, with the Bobcats we kind of lost that," said Doe.

But some say a name change isn't a magic wand. It doesn't guarantee the Bobcat's will break their losing record.   Kent says maybe not, but there's always hope.

"They're going to win solely based on a name, but what it does is it reestablishes a buzz," he said.
