Police: Intruder dead after overnight shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating the fatal Sunday morning shooting that happened around 3:00 a.m. at the Alta Grove apartments at the 9000 block of Season Grove Lane near Cuoloak Drive and Mount Holly-Huntersville in Northwest Charlotte.

Officers responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon. They said a man forcibly entered the apartment where a man and woman lived. A struggle ensued over a weapon, and during the struggle, the intruder was shot. Medic said he died as a result of his injuries. That man's information is being withheld pending family notification.

One of the people living at the apartment was also shot. However, that person was only received a minor gunshot wound to the hand and should be okay.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit are still investigating.
