CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police in Charlotte say they have arrested a teenager after finding him with a loaded semi-automatic pistol on a high school campus.
Kaderius Berry, 17, is charged with having a weapon on campus, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
It happened at Olympic High School, in Steele Creek, on Friday morning when officers arrived to question Berry in another incident.
Berry was found in a classroom with a loaded .22 semi-automatic pistol in his waistband. Police say he is known for having guns on him.
Officials say no one was injured or threatened. Berry was arrested.
"A lot of people do take is serious, so do the teachers..whenever there is something like that at school you have to take it serious," Student Diego Caceros said.
"I don't think too much about it because I don't want to scare myself when I go to school," Katherine Pang said.
School officials sent a message to parents about the incident.
"Staff was informed that a student brought a gun to school. The student was identified, and as a result of the search, the student was found to be in possession of a gun," the message said.
"I encourage you to talk to your child about the seriousness of this incident and the importance of sharing with any administrator, teacher or staff person any situation that violates school conduct," school officials said. "Please inform your child of the consequences that go along with this, which can be found in your Students Rights and Responsibilities Handbook."
