CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Investigators are asking for the public's assistance in locating a man they say is wanted for insurance fraud.
Calvin Brooks, 28, of Charlotte, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, according to Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.
The Department of Insurance is asking for help from the public in locating an additional man, Torran Phillips, 35, Charlotte, who is wanted on one count each of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators say Brooks and Phillips filed a fraudulent insurance claim with Hartford Insurance Company after a July 31, 2012, car accident in Charlotte.
Investigators say that the duo exaggerated the amount of damage to their vehicle, and the extent of their medical injuries in an attempt to defraud the insurance company.
Brooks was arrested on March 13 in Mecklenburg County and held on $5,000 secured bond.
Anyone with information on Phillips' whereabouts is encouraged to contact the North Carolina Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at (919)807-6840.
