Police: 25 people arrested during the DNC
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police issued the Democratic National Convention After-Action Report Friday afternoon.
The report states CMPD's goal for the convention, their plan of action, execution of that plan, and total arrests for the week.
CMPD said its goal for the DNC was to "...develop and implement, with numerous participating agencies, a seamless security plan that created a secure environment for the community, dignitaries, event participants and the general public".
CMPD says during the week of the convention, there were no major incidents in Center City, or any of CMPD's 13 patrol divisions.
There were several demonstrations throughout the week, which resulted in a few disruptions to pedestrians and traffic. CMPD did make 25 arrests during the week of the DNC.
Officers said all but one of those arrested lives outside of the Charlotte area. The arrests included:
- Impeding Traffic: 16
- Disorderly Conduct: 3
- Failure to Disperse: 2
- Breaching a Police Line: 1
- Dispersal of Noxious Substance: 1
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon: 1
- Damage to Property: 1
The report goes on to say that the department was able to implement its strategic operations plan thanks to partnerships with the United States Secret Service, Charlotte Fire Department, MEDIC, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, and several other law enforcement agencies that stepped up to help.
