CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Day 2 of AUBS, Achievements Unlimited Basketball School, took place today at Ardrey Kell High School and was full of extra excitement for their guest speaker, Carolina Panthers' Quarterback, Cam Newton.
The idea behind the camp is to teach basic basketball skills, the importance of academics and the need for a strong position against drugs through drills, competition and educational lectures from successful athletes in the NBA and NFL.
Founder of the program and President of the Charlotte Bobcats, Fred Whitfield, spoke to the children before introducing their big speaker of the day using a video. Once the video started, the room erupted and all eyes were on the door waiting for the towering quarterback to walk in. Newton spoke to the kids about the importance of staying in school and not doing drugs.
Newton gave examples of the kids' favorite basketball players, "Do you think Ray Allen graduated? Do you think Ray Allen does drugs?"
Newton high-fived his young fans and answered questions after his lecture.
