Man accused of killing two after hit, run turns himself in

SALISBURY - The Rowan County Sheriff's Office was able to serve warrants on the man they said hit and killed two motorcyclists following a hit and run accident.

Khalil Abdul Farook turned himself in to the North Carolina Highway Patrol Tuesday night.

The accident happened night near the intersection of Airport Road and Village Creek Way in Rowan County.

According to the Highway Patrol, Farook ran off the road on the right side, then over corrected bringing the car back onto the road.  The car ended up sideways in the road, striking a motorcycle carrying the man and woman.

The man on the motorcycle died at the scene, the woman died a short time later in the ambulance.

Troopers have identified the couple as Mark and Sue Jones of Granite Quarry.

Neighbors describe the couple as the perfect pair. Friends of the Jones' sent WBTV a statement saying, "We have lost the best neighbors and friends anyone could hope to have. We looked out for each other, and were always there to lend a helping hand. The many times spent visiting with each other, laughing and just enjoying each other's company are moments we will have to hold on too. Their entire family has become very dear to us and we share the hurt of this tremendous loss. Mark and Suzette will be missed deeply."

A crash reconstruction team from Winston-Salem along with local Highway Patrol investigators were back at the crash site Monday. They told WBTV that a party was going on at the time of the crash and that numerous people were walking along the road and witnessed the crash.
