CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Quick action by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer avoided what could have been a tragic situation in Elizabeth Friday morning.

A 19-year-old woman was sitting in her car talking on her cell phone at 4th Street and Queens Road unaware that her car engine had caught fire.

The officers quickly jumped out of his car and opened the driver's side door and told the woman to get out of the car.

Charlotte firefighters were called to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.

The car had broken down coming off of Hawthorne Lane.
