LANCASTER, SC (WBTV) - Deputies in Lancaster are investigating a deadly shooting after they say a homeowner shot and killed a family member who was trying to break into their home.

According to the Lancaster Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a home along JB Denton Road around 5:56 pm on Thursday evening to the report of a shooting.

When deputies arrived they found the body of 46-year-old Curt Alan Reed.

Deputies were told that an irate family member, Reed, armed with a gun was attempting to force entry into the home.

Reed broke the glass from the back door in an apparent attempt to enter the home, deputies say, and was shot by the homeowner.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Reed was prohibited by law from possessing a firearm.

Criminal Investigators and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene and began a detailed investigation.  At this time it appears that the shooting was justified and no criminal charges are anticipated.
