Democrat wins Gastonia mayor as Tea Party, GOP split votes


GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) - In Gastonia's Mayoral race there were three candidates running -- a Democrat, a Republican and a Tea Party candidate.

The lineup includes Gastonia City Council member Republican John Howren, former council member and North Carolina Representative Democrat John Bridgeman.

Real estate appraiser Tea Party Michael Dickson was also on the ballot.

     The winner in this race is very likely Bridgeman, who has 45 percent of the vote with 96 percent of all precincts reporting.
