Former policeman dies after reportedly shooting ex-wife, self

DAVIDSON, NC (WBTV) - A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer has died four days after he reportedly shot his ex-wife and then himself in a domestic violence incident.

According to CMPD, 31-year-old Jeremy Hester died in the hospital on Tuesday, four days after neighbors told police that he shot his ex-wife in the neck during an argument.

Officers were called to a home on the 19700 block of Callaway Hills Lane early Saturday morning around 2:02 a.m. When they arrived, officers found Hester and 28-year-old Erin Cobb in the front yard of the home.

Neighbors say Hester drove to his ex-wife's house, the two got into an argument, then shots were fired. Investigators say Hester shot Cobb in the neck before shooting himself in the head.

Both were rushed to Carolinas Medical Center Main to be treated for their injuries. Hester died from his injuries on Tuesday, Cobb remains hospitalized as of Wednesday morning.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Hester is a former Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officer who was hired in May 2007 and resigned from the department in March 2010.
