GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) - A Gaston County teenager was knocked unconscious after falling from a moving vehicle Monday afternoon.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. at Forestview High School located on Union Road in Gaston County.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, two students were hanging onto the roof rack of a Nissan truck driven by 17-year-old Bailey White when the accident occurred.
Witnesses told the highway patrol that White was driving about 20 to 30 miles per hour through the school's parking lot when the roof rack broke and the student hanging on fell off.
White told highway patrol that she was only driving about 5 miles per hour.
The victim, 17-year-old Patrick Newcombe, was taken to the hospital in Gastonia before being transported Carolinas Medical Center-Main. He is being treated for a skull fracture and concussion, state troopers said.
White was charged with reckless driving. At last check, the highway patrol said Newcombe was drifting in and out of consciousness, but he is expected to recover.
