Man sentenced to life in prison for 2009 Charlotte murder

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A man was sentenced Wednesday afternoon to life in prison for a murder which happened in northeast Charlotte nearly two years ago.

Christopher Patrick Jones, 20, was found guilty of First-Degree Murder in the death of Benizer Graham, Jr. Jones was also found guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

The victim was shot and killed while walking through an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Rolling Hills Drive off West Sugar Creek Road on October 12, 2009.

Graham had just visited a friend and was chased by Jones into nearby apartment where he was shot multiple times and died from his injuries.

During Jones' sentencing at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse, Judge F. Lane Williamson imposed the sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Jones also received an additional 16-20 months in prison for the firearm conviction.
