CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A triple shooting in east Charlotte Wednesday night resulted in the death of one person.

The shooting occurred in an apartment complex parking lot at 2601 Lanecrest Drive and occurred after 10 p.m.

When officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrived, they found William Norman suffering from a gunshot wound.  He died at the scene.

Two other people who were shot were taken to the hospital.

According to a statement issued by the CMPD, it appears Norman and two other men were in the parking lot when two men who were Norman's companions walked up.  The five men exchanged words and a few minutes later, there was an exchange of gunfire.

Officers think Norman and the two suspects who walked up intended to rob the other two men in which Norman was initially talking to in the parking lot, police said.  All of the people involved know each other police said and detectives think the incident could be drug-related.

The second suspect was shot and suffered life-threatening injuries.  He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main.  One of the other subjects was shot and taken to Carolinas Medical Center-University.

Police are still trying to identify the third suspect in the robbery attempt as well as the second subject.
