Former Burke County EMS director charged with embezzlement

BURKE COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A former Major and Operations director for the Burke County Emergency Services is facing felony embezzlement charges.

Ken Anthony was arrested by the State Bureau of Investigation late Wednesday afternoon and taken before a Magistrate.

Anthony resigned from his position in February after an investigation was launched into the finances of the EMS office.

Sheriff John McDevitt said he had received some information about possible irregularities and asked the State Bureau of Investigation to look into it.

The SBI finished it's work in May and forwarded its report to the District Attorney's office.

Officials there on Monday gave the okay to draw up warrants, but Anthony was not served the papers until Wednesday afternoon.

No details of the alleged embezzlement have been released.

Anthony is free tonight on a $10,000 bond.  His first court appearance is set for Friday morning.
