South Charlotte apartment fire

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Charlotte Fire Department battled a fire at a three-story apartment building in south Charlotte Friday afternoon.

The fire was at the Asten Creek Apartments located just inside the I-485 loop near Pineville.  The fire was reported around 4 p.m.

There were heavy fire conditions in the attic area when the Charlotte Fire Department arrived.

They rescued two people from the burning building who ran back into the fire to save some of their possessions.

Firefighters fought the fire for more than an hour and eventually ripped a hole in the roof to help with extinguishing the fire.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken away on a stretcher.

According to the American Red Cross, 4 units were damaged by the fire and an additional 8 units were damaged by smoke or water.
