CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A man who was reported missing exactly one week ago was discovered in a pond in south Charlotte Tuesday morning.
The pond was outside a 3-story apartment building in the Ballantyne area off Via Sorrento Drive.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), the body was identified as 59-year-old Richard Miles Cox.
Someone called 911 around 10:30 a.m. and reported seeing a body floating in the pond.
When CMPD officers arrived, they determined the person was floating face down and he was dead.
Crime Scene Search investigators went to the scene to collect evidence.
A dive team from the Charlotte Fire Department retrieved the body from the water.
The body was taken to the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the exact cause of death.
There appears to be no sign of foul play according to the CMPD.
Cox was reported missing last Tuesday from his home at 15045 Santa Lucia Drive in Charlotte. He lived alone, but was under a doctor's care.
Greg Cox told WBTV his brother had a fever of 109 degrees a couple of years ago which caused him to have some memory and cognitive issues.
The brother said he was concerned because Richard Cox didn't have his medication or cell phone with him.
