Murder suspect arrested at a Charlotte construction site

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and its Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested a murder suspect Monday morning who had been on the run from authorities for the last two years.

Omar Javier Torres was wanted in connection with a 2008 murder which happened in Houston, Texas.

Torres allegedly busted into into his ex-girlfriend's house and shot her new boyfriend in the head.

Authorities arrested Torres in center city Charlotte at a construction site on East Fifth Street early around 7:30 a.m.

Both the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force and VCAT began tracking Torres in March of 2009.
