There are no plans for TSE to have fields for Charlotte FC at Eastland at this time, but they’re “open to discussing opportunities,” a TSE spokesperson said.

City leaders told vendors they would work to find a new location for the market, but five months later they have not succeeded.

Kelly was named the president of Charlotte FC in 2020 before accepting his role at TSE in February.

Prior to Wednesday’s press conference, Tepper had not spoken directly to the media since December 2020.

City officials also said they’re exploring the possibility of helping skaters set up a nonprofit to organically build a new skate park, similar to a model in Asheville.

Financial records shared by city staffers during a Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority board meeting show that the capacity to take on debt for major stadium construction is somewhat limited by other projects the city has already financed.

During an update at the Charlotte city council meeting Monday, Panthers Chief Operating Officer Mark Hart told councilmembers the question over the Panthers future is no longer tied to Eastland, although he pledged that Tepper Sports is committed to Charlotte.

It’s only the beginning of a years long process developing the property into a hub for the new Major League Soccer team and potentially a new incubator for growth on the east side of the city.

A key element of this letter was confirmation that the city aims to put several elements of the franchise on the Eastland mall site in East Charlotte.
