GASTONIA, N.C. (WBTV) - As of Monday, April 1 the Gastonia Police Department continues to search for answers in a triple shooting that took place on Friday.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. Friday along Southside Ave and West Hudson Blvd.

According to Gastonia Police, two teens were hurt in the shooting, along with an adult.

The third person involved in the shooting shared their account of what happened moments before the gunshots.

The victim requested not to be identified, however they said everything changed within a matter of seconds.

They shared the shooting happened while he was driving to get some food with his 14-year-old sister. They said after slowing down to let a person cross the street, gunshots went off, hitting their sister’s stomach.

Fortunately, the adult victim said their sister is in the hospital making strides in her recovery while undergoing multiple surgeries.

The victim also believes he and his sister were not the intended target of the shooting.

Serving as an activist in the Gastonia Community, Finland Fair worries the pattern of gun violence and crime in the area is starting to gear up.

”It’s devastating and it hurts to still see this going on. It’s usually around this time of the year when it starts to happen and once it starts to warm up,” shared Fair.

Thankful this situation did not turn out to be a homicide, Fair hopes the Gastonia community can tackle the problem early this year.

“That’s just something that me and my group 101 Black Men of Highland, we’re trying to reach out to the kids in the community and in schools to try and give them a different outlook. Maybe community dances and things of that nature and you know we need the parents to help too,” said Fair.

WBTV is still waiting to learn more from Gastonia Police about the suspects.

Anyone with any information about the shooting is encouraged to call the Gastonia Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Gaston County.

Tipsters can remain anonymous. Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest in this case.
