Hickory firefighter given $375K bond, charged with sexual exploitation of minor

HICKORY, N.C. (WBTV) - A Hickory firefighter was arrested on Oct. 3, 2023, for sexual exploitation of a minor, according to police department records.

Nate Kurzak, 20, of Asheville, N.C., was given a $375,000 bond and charged with the following:

  • Ten counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor
  • Ten counts of second-degree child sexual exploitation

According to the arrest report, Kurzak was taken into custody without incident.

Kurzak was placed on administrative leave on Oct. 4 and terminated on Oct. 11, according to information from the city of Hickory. He was initially hired as a firefighter on July 29, 2022.
