Dogs attack two women in northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Two women were seriously injured in a dog attack Monday morning in northeast Charlotte, police said.

The attack happened shortly after 9 a.m. near apartments in the area of Mallard Glen Drive and Mallard Highlands Drive in University City.

The owner of the two Cane Corso mix dogs was walking the animals on a leash when they escaped from her and attacked a woman.

CMPD says another woman, a family member, tried to intervene and was also attacked.

Robbie Bell, a father of two who was dropping his 2- and 3-year-olds at a nearby daycare, rushed to help when he saw one of the women attacked.

“I was very concerned that that dog was going to kill that young lady, and I’m absolutely sure if that was a child, it would’ve been much worse,” he said.

Bell called 911 and stayed with the women, both of whom he remembers being in and out of consciousness, until MEDIC brought them to the hospital.

The dogs were surrendered to Animal Care and Control and were euthanized.

CMPD adds both animals did not have current rabies vaccinations and were sent to the state laboratory for rabies testing.
