Salisbury officer arrested, accused of driving while intoxicated

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A Salisbury Police Officer is behind bars after being charged with driving while impaired.

According to the department, Israel McCants was arrested and charged Thursday Mecklenburg County by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

McCants joined the Salisbury Police Department in Nov. 2018 and held the title of Police Officer II assigned to Patrol Team Baker.

He has resigned from his position with SPD as is allowed per state statute, according to the department.
