McDonald Parkway is closed in both directions.
HICKORY, N.C. (WBTV) - One person is dead and multiple are injured following a two-vehicle crash in Hickory on Wednesday night.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash took place around 9:55 p.m. on Oct. 5 in Catawba County on Springs Road and McDonald Parkway.
The crash occurred while the Hickory Police Department was attempting to stop the driver of a stolen Honda Accord around 9:50 p.m. An officer attempted to pull the vehicle over and the driver, 30-year-old Bradley Swink of Claremont, failed to pull over, and fled towards the intersection of Springs Road and McDonald Parkway, resulting in a short pursuit.
When the stolen Honda reached the intersection, it ran a red light and collided with a white Jeep Wrangler occupied by four people ranging from ages 15-17. The jeep overturned onto its side and a third vehicle was struck by the Jeep and sustained minor damage.
All occupants of the Jeep suffered various injuries and were transported to the hospital. Three have been treated and released Thursday morning. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
Claremont was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Claremont had multiple bonds and outstanding felony warrants for his arrest.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and more information will be released when available.
