Mecklenburg County residents started taking advantage of the program right away.
The program still has over $1 million available as of Monday morning, so plenty of people are able to still get help if they need it.
Here are the numbers for week one.
- So far, 86 applications have been filed
- Two applications have been approved and the rest are getting processed
- On average people are asking for four months of assistance but the program allows for up to six months of help
- There is still $1.1 million available, with the funding coming from the CARES Act.
This is mortgage assistance for people who live in Mecklenburg County and have been impacted by COVID. Members of Dream Key Partners said if residents are unsure if they qualify to go ahead and apply, as officials want to help walk them through the process so they know what help is available.
“People are sharing with us that, No. 1, COVID is not over, that they are still experiencing hardship, Erin Barbee, with Dream Key Partners, said. “With mortgage holders, oftentimes they had a bit of saving or they had some money they could pull from and, unfortunately, those funds are depleting at this point and they’re having a difficult time keeping pace. So, for us when we think that maybe we are moving out of the pandemic, what we’re hearing is that we’re still in it.”
