HICKORY, N.C. (WBTV) - Officials arrested four teens in Florida days after the gunpoint carjacking of an 83-year-old woman in Hickory, North Carolina.

An 83-year-old woman was parking her vehicle in the lower-level parking deck at Dillard’s on US Highway 70 SE in Hickory near the west entrance on Monday, Feb. 21 around 1:41 p.m.

When she got out of her car, she was approached by a male wearing a dark-colored hoodie pulled up and a dark-colored mask covering his mouth and nose.

Officials say he was displaying a black or dark gray handgun when he approached the victim and stated, “keys, keys”. The woman complied with the male and gave him the keys to a burgundy 2001 Buick Century.

The male got in the car and drove away heading south towards Catawba Valley Boulevard SE. The carjacking was not captured on surveillance cameras.

On Thursday, Feb. 24, the woman’s car was located at a gas station in Palm Coast, Florida by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. An alert deputy observed the vehicle parked at the gas pumps at a Shell Gas Station.

There were four teens in the car, including one 15-year-old boy, one 15-year-old girl, one 16-year-old girl and one 17-year-old boy.

The 17-year-old boy and the two girls had previously been reported missing to the Hickory Police Department. The 15-year-old boy had been reported missing to the Long View Police Department.

Officials say the 15-year-old boy matched the description of the robbery suspect and a black Sig Sauer P365 BB air pistol and a black ski mask was located in his jacket pockets.

All four teens were placed under arrest for grand theft of a motor vehicle and the 15-year-old has an additional charge of carrying a concealed weapon while committing a felony.

The NC Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Florida Department of Children and Family are working together in order to facilitate the transportation of the juveniles back to North Carolina.

Anyone with information regarding this ongoing investigation is encouraged to call the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
