Homicide investigation underway after driver crashes, dies on I-485
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A homicide investigation is underway in west Charlotte after one person was killed Sunday evening.
Officers responded to an accident on the North 485 interloop at Mt. Holly Road around 7 p.m. and located a Mercedes Benz that had veered off of the roadway and was on fire. The driver, identified as 36-year-old Jamil Rout, was removed from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant of the car.
It was determined that an altercation involving the victim occurred earlier at 1900 Marita Drive.
CMPD is investigating and more details will be provided when available.
