GASTONIA, N.C. (WBTV) - Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement is temporarily halting the adoption and intake of cats.

The animal shelter is currently experiencing an outbreak of the ringworm virus in the cat population. Through discussions with North Carolina’s Department of Agriculture: Veterinarian Services, the suggested protocol to follow is for Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement to partially shut down the shelter.

For 21 days, the shelter will not adopt or intake any cats. During this partial shutdown, the cat population will be isolated and medically treated for the virus.
