Teacher accused of indecent liberties with student at high school in Monroe

UNION COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A teacher at a high school in Monroe was arrested after he was accused of taking indecent liberties with a student.

The investigation began on May 25, when the Monroe Police Department got information about a teacher at Central Academy of Technology and Arts (CATA) engaging in inappropriate behavior with a student.

After their investigation, 35-year-old Cory McDowell was arrested on June 9 and charged with indecent liberties by a teacher with a student. Officials say McDowell is an English teacher at CATA.

Officials have not said where or when the alleged incidents occurred.

McDowell later went before a magistrate and received a secured bond.

The Monroe Police Department says they are working closely with Union Public Schools as the investigation continues.
