Toddler shot in rural Cleveland County
CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A 2-year-old boy was shot Sunday morning in Lawndale.
The incident was called in around 10:30 a.m. on Douglas Street. Medics arrived to find the young child wounded inside a home.
Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman said the child suffered serious injuries but was alert at the scene. The boy was later airlifted to a Charlotte hospital.
“First and foremast we need to keep that child in our prayers,” Norman said. “This is unfortunate and uncalled for.”
The sheriff said the call came in as a drive-by shooting, but deputies haven’t concluded that that was the nature of the incident.
“It is extremely a fluid case, and it’s changing rapidly.”
“I heard a couple of shots and I didn’t think nothing else about it,” said Charlotte Brooks, a neighbor. “Then we got out and come around through here and seen the police and rescue squad come through here.”
Officers haven’t made an arrest in the case.
