ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A Salisbury child care facility has earned a top distinction. Partners In Learning Novant child care site on Best St. received national accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (https://www.naeyc.org/accreditation/early-learning-program-accreditation).

“We are the only center in Rowan and the surrounding counties,” said Director Norma Honeycutt. “Only 10% of child care centers nationally are accredited.’

Honeycutt says that Partners In Learning acquired the Novant site four years ago and worked hard toward this goal for 3 years.

To obtain accreditation, eligible child care centers must score at least 80% for each criteria. Partners in Learning scored 100% in all but three categories, with 94% being the lowest score received. Additionally, each class scored above average with its portfolio and observation.

“We went through 18 months of self-study and then COVID put a hold on the assessor visit,” Honeycutt added.

To celebrate, a special event was held for the staff on Saturday. Using the F&M Trolley, the news was announced to staff. Staff members then boarded the trolley and went to downtown Salisbury for shopping. Each staff member was given $100 to splurge on themselves.

Staff members were then treated to a lunch on the grounds at the Catawba College Partners In learning site.
