ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A woman was charged in a Rowan County shooting that happened Monday evening.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. on Hartley Road off Bringle Ferry Road. Officials said a medical helicopter was called.
Ann Lisenby Carroll, 52, also known as Ann Coon, was arrested in the shooting and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
Carroll is being held without bond.
According to the report, deputies responded to the house on Monday night and found the victim, 42-year-old Jody Lowell Moon, suffering from a gunshot wound to the right side of the neck. Moon was flown to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Carroll, listed on the report as Moon’s fiancé, told deputies that she accidentally shot Moon. She said she had a handgun hidden in a pillowcase in the bedroom and that when she picked up the pillow, the gun fell out, discharging when it hit the floor and hitting Moon. The report says that Carroll later changed the story to say that the gun accidentally discharged when she picked it up off the floor.
Carroll did not call 911 immediately after the shooting because she said that Moon had hidden her phone.
