Man arrested after fatal hit-and-run crash involving motorcycle in Catawba County

Arrest made in deadly Catawba County hit-and-run

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A man was arrested on Monday after a fatal hit-and-run crash in Catawba County, according to state troopers.

The crash involved a motorcyclist on NC 16 near the intersection of Mount Olive Church Road. The motorcyclist, identified as 26-year-old Troy Michael Faust, died at the scene.

The driver, who was identified as 65-year-old Timothy Jay Roberts, left the scene and was found “through a sequence of events” about three miles from the scene at a residence, officials said.

Roberts was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, felony death by vehicle and felony hit and run. 

Roberts is being held at the Catawba County Detention Facility under a $5,000 bond.

Troopers say the road will be shut down for “some time.”
