King Cake Monkey Bread Recipe

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - King Cake is a Mardi Gras tradition. You can always order one, plenty of bakeries offer them. But if you haven’t already, it’s too late for that now. You can try this sweet treat instead! This is a fun twist you can make at home. This is a monkey bread king cake recipe from Southern Living. If you’ve ever had monkey bread, you know it’s easy to pull apart.

Producer Heidi made one last night and Mary decorated it this morning!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cans Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls Grands
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • Purple, yellow, and green sanding sugar

STEP 1:

Preheat oven to 350*. Spray a tube pan with cooking spray.

STEP 2:

Separate cinnamon rolls. Save icing for later. Cut each cinnamon roll into four pieces, place in tube pan.

STEP 3:

Beat together cream cheese and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla and milk. Mix until combined. Pour over cinnamon rolls.

STEP 4:

Back 45-50 minutes. Let pan cool for 10 minutes.

STEP 5:

Turn monkey bread out on a place and ice with cinnamon roll icing. Decorate with sanding sugar.
