CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - It’s Kristen’s favorite day of the year….National Chocolate Cake Day!

Fun Facts: In 1847, a woman named Eliza Leslie, a popular cookbook author in Philadelphia, published the earliest chocolate cake recipe in The Lady’s Receipt Book. This recipe used chopped chocolate instead of cocoa powder. Then in the late 1920′s, a company called O. Duff and Sons created the first boxed cake mix. Betty Crocker released its first dry cake mix in 19497.

Today we tried another life hack. It had to do with slicing cake. Usually, when you cut this delicious dessert, you end up with clumps of frosting and cake on the knife…and then it just doesn’t look pretty. So Kristen tried using floss. This hack is supposed to keep the cuts clean and straighter than when you use a knife.

Two important things here:

  • You want to make sure the floss has the wax coating
  • Make sure it’s not mint flavored unless you want your cake to have a hint of mint

So did it work? Watch the video to find out!
