CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - This Rowan County brother and sister were born three days apart. Both are ten years old. One turns 11 on March 2nd, the other on March 5th.
Confused? Read on. A little [needed?] inspiration for 2021.
“I’d love for you to meet my two wonderful kiddos, Aiden and Gracelyn,” Nicole Traver said. “Aiden is our biological son. He is funny and sweet but struggles with meeting people and making friends because of his autism. Gracelyn, meantime, is our sassy adopted daughter. We adopted her in April 2017 and from the moment they met, they’ve been inseparable, best friends. They support each other where the other is lacking.”
The words jumped off Nicole’s email: “...support each other where the other is lacking.”
She went on.
“Grace has a very complicated medical background and has had over 20 surgeries,” Nicole said. “My husband Nick and I are amazed at how she never gives up. She battles every day with pain and continues to have a smile on her face. She really is the strongest person I have ever met. She has an ileostomy to use the bathroom as well as a G-Tube, a Mitrofanoff (a tunnel between the bladder and outside of the body, used to pass urine through a catheter), a G-Tube for nutrition, and a port for IV antibiotics and fluids.”
Nicole didn’t go into details on why she needs all those things, but it’s clear her daughter has multiple obstacles. Nicole did, however, relay this most excellent part:
“Grace named all those things in her body after Super Mario characters because of her and Aiden’s love for them,” Nicole said. “It goes to show her strength and attitude.”
As we all know, kids aren’t defined by their challenges, so here’s a little bit about Aiden and Grace besides what you just read:
- Both are home-schooled by Nicole.
- Aiden is an amazing artist.
- He loves making stop-motion videos.
- Grace loves dress-up.
- She adores playing with Barbies and make-up.
- The Granite Quarry family also has two standard poodles.
- Their names are Poochy and Bentley.
- Aiden and Grace call them their “goats.”
“Thank you to everyone who supports children like my two,” Nicole said. “And for shining light on these little superheroes.”
Welcome to #MollysKids, Aiden and Grace. Think you just brought a breath of fresh air to many timelines.
