Assault with a deadly weapon charges dismissed for Georgia man charged in 2018 Rowan County shooting incident

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - As the result of a plea agreement reached between parties in court, a Georgia man who was charged in a shooting in Rowan County had most charges against him dismissed.
Michael Paul Smith, 45, of Hephzibah, Georgia, was charged in February, 2018, with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, discharging a firearm into occupied property, and solicitation of prostitution.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, 42-year-old Robert Chad Christie, also known as Kelly, Smith and Heather Fitzgerald, 28, all face charges in this incident.
On Jan. 12, 2018, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting call in the 200 block of Farm House Road.
When deputies arrived, Christie was found with a gun shot wound to the leg.
Smith was also on the scene. Christie was taken to the hospital for treatment, while Smith was identified as the suspect in the shooting.
In court recently, Smith pleaded no contest to one count of solicitation of prostitution. All other charges in the case were dismissed.
