Rain to start, mountain snow tonight

WBTV Monday morning weather forecast

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The morning rain is heading east. We will see improving conditions through the day with highs in the low 60s. It will become breezy for the afternoon.

The next First Alert is tonight – only for the mountains. Snow will be moving in behind the system. Snow showers could mix in this afternoon for the mountain tops. The temperatures will fall below freezing after the sun goes down.

Since we have been so mild and ground temperatures are still in the low 40s, it will take a while for it to stick. However, some places across Avery, Ashe and Watauga could pick up 1-3″ of snow. The highest elevations will obviously see the most.

For everyone else, cold temperatures will be the big story. We will start Tuesday morning in the low 30s. Highs will only reach the mid 40s. We will moderate a tad for the middle part of the week. Highs will be in the low 50s Wednesday and the upper 50s Thursday and Friday.

The next possibility of rain will come on Friday. As of now, there’s a 30% chance. Most of the weekend looks good. Highs will be in the mid 50s with low rain chances.

Make it a great Monday!
