21-year-old charged in deadly shooting in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A 21-year-old man was arrested in a deadly shooting late Sunday night in north Charlotte.

Ricky Alexander was taken into custody in Alamance County Monday

Alexander is facing murder charges in the death of 48-year-old Richard Clarke.

Police said Alexander will be returned to Charlotte, interviewed by detectives and then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday night, a man, who was later identified as Clarke, was shot and killed in Charlotte’s University City area late Sunday night, prompting a homicide investigation.

The shooting happened just before midnight off of Bustlehead Court near University City Boulevard. Police say they were called to the shooting and arrived to find a man dead with a gunshot wound.

Homicide detectives are investigating the case and collecting evidence.
