Charlotte reacts to projection of Biden-Harris presidency

People in Charlotte react to Joe Biden elected President

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - After news that Joe Biden was projected to become the 46th President of the United States, dozens gathered across Charlotte to celebrate.

“It feels great to know that we’ve come out of the mess we’ve had the last four years," said Sheila Thomas. "The people have spoken. They chose character over chaos.”

“All I got to say is Biden 2020," added another Biden supporter.

But across Charlotte, there were others disappointed in the outcome.

They were hoping for four more years of President Donald Trump and his administration.

“On one hand, glad it is over. On the other hand, it is unfortunate that America is moving a little closer to socialism," said Kyle Jenkins, a supporter of President Trump. “We’re going to dust ourselves off and we are going to work hard to make sure our policies are implemented."

“I am concerned about our country. The economics....the insurance, that’s a big deal," added Gina Travis.

“I hope democracy rules and I hope it’s all legit," said John Cook

Supporters hoping the election will be a moment everyone can celebrate with Kamala Harris making history.

“Most excited about the opportunity for little girls to see a woman who looks like us, to see a woman in that position, powerful position and know that they can aspire and dream to be whatever they choose to be...that is is possible," said NAACP Charlotte president Corine Mack.

Harris is the first woman vice president-elect.
