INDIAN LAND, S.C. (WBTV) - The YMCA is opening a new location in Indian Land, SC on Thursday.
At noon, leaders with the Upper Palmetto YMCA will cut the ribbon to open the new facility located along Highway 521 and Dobys Bridge Road.
“Indian Land is just growing so quickly, people are moving rapidly, headquarters expanding, so we thought this was a great place to be,” Marketing and Development Director for the YMCA Olivia Chamblee said.
The ribbon cutting will be open to the public. The first 500 people in attendance will receive a free t-shirt and their joining fee waived. Tours will be given in small groups throughout the afternoon.
The YMCA in Indian Land has been years in the making. They broke ground on the facility in May of 2019. It includes a 25-yard-length indoor, heated swimming pool, cardio and weight training, childcare, an elevated walking track, a gymnasium, lighted ball fields, group fitness classes, an a sauna in the men’s and women’s locker rooms.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, there will be limited capacity in the group fitness classes, only every other cardio machine is in use, and masks must be worn in the common areas.
The YMCA is also offering financial assistance to those who need help with membership fees.
“The YMCA has a robust scholarship program for people who need assistance with membership dues, program fees, childcare fees,” Chamblee said. “We know that it’s been a hard year for people. Our CEO has put a goal of giving out 4,000 scholarships in the next year.”
