CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A person died after being struck by a car Saturday night in north Charlotte.
Police said they responded around 9:30 p.m. to the 1900 block of Beatties Ford Road.
One person, identified as 28-year-old Jamal McCullough, died at the scene.
Police said a 2011 Toyota Corolla was traveling along Beatties Ford Road near Hildenbrand Street and struck McCullough.
The initial investigation indicates that McCullough stepped into the road and was in a crosswalk when he was hit by the car. Police said the crosswalk has a traffic control which requires the pedestrian to activate the control light to stop traffic.
Police said the pedestrian did not activate the traffic light. Speed and impairment are not factors in the crash for the driver, but police said impairment is suspected for the pedestrian.
Currently, there are no charges pending.
Any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information concerning the crash, should contact Detective Mercedes at (704) 432-2169 Ext# 5 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
