Woman accused of shooting man in back of patrol car

CRAMERTON, N.C. (WBTV) - Police say a woman shot a man who was sitting in a patrol car in Cramerton Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened around 12:15 p.m. at the Hampton Meadows Apartments on Hampton Meadows Lane.

Cramerton police said a person was detained and put into the patrol car during a dispute. As other people continued to cause a disturbance, police say Ashley Marie Forney, grabbed a gun and walked near the police car and shot into it, shooting the man multiple times.

Fortney was arrested without incident and was taken to the Gaston County Jail with no bond.

She is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The man was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center and then to Atrium Health Carolina Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

Jonah Watson has called the Hampton Meadows Apartments home for the past decade. He describes it as a nice quiet place to live. But not Tuesday.

“I saw two police officers arriving and an EMS truck arriving and a man laying on the ground. The lady was already in custody when they got here and they had said he had been shot," Watson said. “I heard the gunshots going off as I was coming home from work.”

Tyler Estep was inside his apartment when the shots were fired, and say it took him by surprise.

“That’s pretty crazy. Not something you really hear about happening,” Estep said.
