CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - One person has died, and two others were injured, in a crash Saturday afternoon in north Charlotte.
The three-vehicle crash happened around 3:40 p.m. in the 5000 block of Sunset Road. The deceased, 52-year-old Timothy Rice, was driving a motorcycle, police said.
The other two vehicles were a Chevrolet Avalanche and a Nissan Altima, police say.
The driver of Avalanche, James Brooks, was traveling west on Sunset Road and failed to reduce his speed before hitting the back of the Altima. The Altima spun through the median and into the eastbound lanes before hitting the motorcycle.
Rice died on the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
Brooks was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to reduce speed.
One person was pronounced dead by paramedics, while another person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another person was treated for minor injuries.
Police closed Sunset Road and Milhaven Lane to investigate.
