Impaired woman charged for fatally striking pedestrian in Kannapolis

Kannapolis police encourage drivers to slow down, beware of pedestrians

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (WBTV) - An impaired woman was charged after she struck and killed a pedestrian Monday morning in Kannapolis, officials say.

Taylor Grace Walczak, 22, from Cornelius, has been charged with Driving While Impaired and Felony Death by Vehicle.

Jeremiah Devante Williams, 26, from Concord, was struck and killed while walking east on Barr Road just before 5:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Walczak was operating her 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix while impaired, and was placed under arrest at the scene.

She was taken to the Cabarrus County Jail under a $102,500 bond.
