Police investigate homicide at Charlotte gas station

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Police have charged a man in the fatal shooting of another man Saturday evening outside of an east Charlotte gas station.

Detectives charged 25-year-old Jonathan Tyrese Best-Edmonds in the murder of 52-year-old Allen Nugene Smith.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a shooting call around 9:30 p.m. at the BP gas station on East W.T. Harris Boulevard and Milton Road.

Police said they arrived and found Smith inside a vehicle in the gas station parking lot with a gunshot wound. First responders attempted CPR, but Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

As a result of continued investigation, detectives identified Best-Edmonds as a suspect in this case. On July 14, Best-Edmonds was apprehended by CMPD and taken to be interviewed by detectives.

At the conclusion of the interview, Best-Edmonds was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where he was charged with first-degree murder.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
