Pets killed in massive Ballantyne house fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A two-alarm fire broke out at a two-story Ballantyne home Monday, killing several pets.

The fire broke out before 12:30 p.m. at a home on Jordan Rae Lane near Ballantyne Commons Parkway. Heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the home as more than 40 firefighters worked to control the fire.

Charlotte firefighters say while no people were hurt, several pets died in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Investigators estimated property loss at $270,000, and its occupants are now staying with family.
