Pedestrian struck and killed in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A man was struck and killed in west Charlotte on December 13 has been identified by police as 42-year-old Carlington Jackson.

The deadly incident happened on Boyer Street at Wilkinson Boulevard before 7:15 a.m., causing backups in the area. Mulberry Church Road was blocked and drivers were advised to avoid the area.

Officers were dispatched to a crash, and when they arrived, they found a 2005 Volvo with a man, later identified as Jackson, pinned underneath, and a 1999 Mercedes Benz near the scene. It was also determined that a third unknown vehicle was involved but had fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival. Police were initially investigating the crash as a hit-and-run, but later said that there was no unknown vehicle involved in this case.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Jackson was crossing the street and did not have the right of way. As he crossed, a Mercedes Benz struck him, and then the Volvo struck Jackson as he was lying in the roadway.

“All parties in this crash are accounted for and there is no one outstanding in this case at this time,” police say.

Impairment and speed are not contributing factors for the Mercedes or Volvo. It is unknown if impairment is a factor for Jackson.

This is an ongoing, active investigation. Any witnesses to the crash or anyone with information concerning the crash, should contact detectives at (704) 432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600. The public can also visit the Crime Stoppers website.
