CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - It’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but season after season the Grinch tries to steal Christmas.
With the holidays around the corner, police want online shoppers to plan ahead so their packages don’t get stolen.
“You’re aware of it but you just never think it would happen to you,” April, who lives in NODA, said.
She was stunned when she watched her Ring security footage. The video shows a man parking his car in front of her house, leisurely walking up to her front door, grabbing her package and taking off with it.
It was a Christmas gift for her nephew that ended up stolen hours after its delivery.
“I was mortified,” she said. “I felt so unsafe. I didn’t really know what to do.”
She filed a police report and handed over evidence she found in her front yard.
“We have the cigarette butt that he threw out so the police are investigating that,” she said.
CMPD recommends having your packages delivered to a neighbor or your office if you’ll be out of town or notifying your local post office to hold your package. They also suggest using Amazon lockers if you’re ordering from that site and of course calling 911 if you see anyone suspicious in your neighborhood.
April learned the hard way. Now she has a message for the thief.
“The police are looking for you and hopefully Charlotte, North Carolina is as well,” she said.
April says after this happened she set up a P.O. box for the rest of her packages to be delivered.
