First responders surprised with Panthers tickets in Gastonia

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - Some local firefighters were recognized Wednesday afternoon for the tireless work they put in every day. Now it’s their turn to have a little bit of fun.

Academy Sports and Outdoors surprised three firefighters with Gaston County Firefighters Association with tickets to the Carolina Panthers “Salute to Service” game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

In addition to the tickets, each firefighter was given a $100 shopping spree to purchase Panthers gear like jerseys, hats, t-shirts, novelty items, and more.

Chris Page is a firefighter from Dallas. He said he’s looking forward to taking his son to his very first football game.

“I haven’t had the opportunity to go to a football game since he’s been born, so it’s going to be pretty neat to be able to take him," Page said.

Some of the firefighters used their gift cards to buy Panther memorabilia, but most headed for the heavy winter coat rack to help them keep warm this winter.
